Today Jill from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also known as FCA came to speak to members of the Enterprise Systems Student Union about upcoming job opportunities as well as how to build a successful career. She started the presentation out with a little background about FCA. In 2014, Chrysler merged with Fiat. Jill explained that FCA is a new company with a lot of history. Fiat Chrysler is the seventh largest automaker in the world.
Jill taught us the importance of the first ninety days on the job. She explained that these first ninety days set the tone for the rest of our careers. In this time frame, it is very important how people perceive you. She examined five different strategies we can utilize in order to develop a good plan that adds value. The first strategy was to become a contributor versus a consumer. The second strategy is to build credibility. The third strategy was to establish a network. The fourth strategy was to learn the culture. The fifth and final strategy is to be able to balance your professional and personal lives.
Jill also gave us importance advice on how to avoid the “career wrecking ball”. She told us to be engaged, to over deliver, to plan out our career, to come bearing solutions instead of problems, be adaptable and to listen to your coaches.
This presentation was very informational for all of our members and gave us a glimpse into what we can expect from our first ninety days on the job. It also gave us valuable information on how to build a successful career plan.
