March 15, 2017

This meeting began at 6:04 p.m. in the Seidman Forum. This meeting was a company information meeting featuring Eli Lilly. We were pleased to have Brian Laughlin and Allison Staub talk to our organization about Eli Lilly and explain the kind of work they do on the SAP side. Brian Laughlin is Global SAP Application Operations Manager and Allison Staub is an IT Analyst at Eli Lilly.

Eli Lilly is a pharmaceutical company Headquarter in Indianapolis. They market products to over 120 countries and consist of over 41,000 employees worldwide. The company recently has had a long successful history as they just recently celebrated their 140th anniversary. Brian explained the range of products they offer like cardiovascular, diabetes, immunology, musculoskeletal, neuroscience, oncology, and, yes, animal health even! Brian shared a story on how the products that Eli Lilly sells ends up saving lives and an important part of people’s lives. Eli Lilly’s mission is to innovate like by finding new and better medicines.

Brian went over the many ways on how Eli Lilly gives back to the community through volunteering. Eli Lilly has a Global Day of Service for all employees to engage with their communities as well as other global abroad volunteer services.  Brian highlighted the many club and activities that Lilly offers at their headquarters. He also talked about Indy and the amenities that the city offers.

Like most businesses, SAP is at the center of the IT strategy at Eli Lilly also. They run on a single instance of SAP company-wide which is interesting. Brian talked about advantages of being on a single instance.  Eli Lilly’s IT department is divided up between Research IT, Medical Device IT, Global Information Services IT, Manufacturing IT, Therpeutic Business Unit IT, Elanco IT.

Because Allison joined Lilly within the past year, she was able to talk about the development program and the interview process. She also explained the rotation program and onboarding. Employees at Eli Lilly have a neat opportunity because they can define their career path whether it be a focus on professional, management, or research. Allsion pointed out how people are able to switch back and forth between career paths as they wish.

It was interesting to hear from perspectives of both Brian and Allison. Overall it was an informative meeting. Students are encouraged to check out postings for full-time and part-time positions at https://careers.lilly.com/

Networking was held afterwards. The presentation concluded at 7:25 p.m.
