I have joined Grand Valley State University (GVSU) as a master’s student in School of Engineering in winter 2012. I have completed my B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). As a Graduate Assistant (GA), I am working with Dr. Lindsay Corneal on the project entitled “Manganese oxide nanoparticles on carbon nanotubes for battery electrode applications”.
The purpose of this project is to find new material for lithium ion battery electrode. Part of this project will be done on Michigan State University (GVSU) as GVSU don’t have all the resources that are required for this project. As a part of my independent study course, I am also working with Dr. Corneal to develop a new course on “Materials for Energy Storage”. Our objective is to establish a research area in advanced energy storage at GVSU.
Working as a GA is a whole new experience for me. Having a mechanical Engineering background, this project is providing me the opportunity to learn new branches of engineering. Dr. Corneal helps me a lot to become familiarize with the new topics. Also, the financial aid provided for the GA position helps me to continue my education. GA provides an opportunity to be in touch with all the faculty members. Being a GA, I am able to access all laboratories which are also an invaluable experience for me. This position will also help me decide my master’s thesis.
