IN THE EVENT OF AN ASSAULT:
Dial 911 and report it immediately. For non-emergency assistance, contact GVSU police at (616) 331-3255.

  • Check if the area is safe to approach.
  • Ask if the person is physically injured.
  • Render assistance to the victim.
  • Avoid touching the victim.
  • Listen carefully.
  • Do not question the person about the details of the attack.
  • Protect the scene for evidence.
  • Encourage the victim NOT to clean up, shower, or change clothing to prevent valuable evidence from being destroyed.

BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

  • Location of incident.
  • Any weapons involved.
  • Type of injury.
  • Description of suspect.
  • Your name, location, and phone number.
