What is "Exercise is Medicine" on Campus (EIM-OC)?

Exercise is Medicine® on Campus (EIM-OC) is a global health initiative, managed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), calling upon universities and colleges to engage in the promotion of physical activity as a vital sign of health.

Vital Signs of Health

  • Making movement a part of the daily campus culture
  • Assessing physical activity at every student health visit
  • Providing students the tools necessary to strengthen healthy physical activity habits that can last a lifetime
  • Connecting university health care providers with university health fitness specialists to provide a referral system for exercise prescription

What is EIM at GVSU?

EIM-OC at GVSU is committed to improving the health, wellness, and quality of life of faculty, staff, and students by prescribing the wonder drug, Exercise!

The Mission and Vision of GVSU's EIM initiative echoes those of ACSM, including;

Mission: to foster collaborative relationships and leadership on campus between exercise, health, and other disciplines that support the EIM-OC vision and goals.

Vision: to see all campus and community members across multiple disciplines discover, share, and adopt the principles of EIM-OC that will help change the culture of chronic disease prevention and management campus wide.
