General Procedures for Requesting Alternative Format Textbooks

Please submit a list of requested materials to Disability Support Resources using the form below on this page. The required information includes the following:

  • Course Number and Section
  • Book Title
  • Book Author
  • Book ISBN Number

Terms and Conditions


Disability Support Resources provides alternative format "scanned" books as an accommodation to qualifying students. Students using this accommodation must agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • The student must be currently registered as an active student with Disability Support Resources, and be approved for alternative format books as an accommodation.
  • The student must purchase, and own for the entire semester, a printed copy of the book for which alternative format is requested.
  • The student must provide proof-of-purchase, if requested, to Disability Support Resources for each book requested in alternate format.
  • The student understands that alternate format files are provided for the individual student's use only.
  • The student will not share, post, reproduce, or otherwise further distribute alternative format files. To share, post, reproduce, or otherwise further distribute alternate format files would constitute a violation of copyright law, and could result in disciplinary action by the University, and/or civil or criminal action by the copyright holder.
  • The student understands that the distribution of alternate format files are tracked, and may contain embedded or hidden content that aids in linking inappropriately distributed files to the student to whom the files were originally provided.
  • The student will be required to submit a personal copy of the book to be put into alternate format in the event the book must be scanned.
  • The student understands the submitted copy of the book will be cut, scanned, rebound, and returned to the student. This process will require Disability Support Resources to be in possession of the book for a period of time. Every effort will be made to return the book to the student as quickly as possible.
  • The student will delete any files, and return any CDs containing alternative format media to Disability Support Resources, in the event the student sells or otherwise forfeits ownership of the book.
