| Career Library: O*NET® |
What is O*NET?
O*NET, the Occupational Information Network, is a comprehensive database of worker attributes and job characteristics. It is the replacement for the "Dictionary of Occupational Titles" [DOT]. O*NET will be the nation's primary source of occupational information.
O*NET provides a common language for defining and describing occupations. It seeks to capture rapidly changing educational and occupational job requirements. It will provide up-to-date career information to educational institutions, volunteer agencies, and employers. O*NET moves information into the internet/technological age.
O*NET may be used to:
Research career trends
Explore career attributes to identify worker skills
Create skills-match profiles
Improve career counseling efforts
Facilitate staff development
Develop descriptions how jobs match college majors
Seek out career information
For additional information, contact a counselor at the Counseling and Career Development Center.
