Career Library:  eDISCOVER
eDISCOVER is a computerized-based guidance assessment, planning, exploration, and information system. One of its major goals is to help individuals make good career and educational decisions whether decisions represent educational plans, employment alternatives, advanced training and graduate school work, or military training.

eDISCOVER is organized around a "World of Work Center Directory." The directory features a main menu which outlines four major career planning activities. These activities include:

  • Learn about self and career
  • Choose occupations
  • Plan my education
  • Plan for work

Some key sources for easy access to personal and career information include self-assessment inventory (interests, values, and abilities), occupational information and the World-of-Work-Map, undergraduate and graduate schools, financial aid, internships, military opportunities, and job search information (resume building, preparing cover letter, job interview tips). All information can be downloaded and printed for user convenience. Informational resources are linked with Web sites.

Students can use eDISCOVER to build career plans suited to their expectations, goals, needs, and traits. Encouragement is provided to help students research career fields and college majors and retrieve information about work opportunities, career trends, and scholarship information.

Advantages of eDISCOVER

eDISCOVER helps students develop individual career plans based on objective processes and strategies for assessing personal traits, for obtaining career information, exploring career alternatives, developing resumes, and for preparing for job interviews.

  1. eDISCOVER provides up-to-date career information. Data files are updated annually reflecting US labor market trends for many career fields and for equivalent military fields. The World Wide Web links local users with data banks of corporations, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and professional societies to provide additional sources of information.

  2. eDISCOVER combines personal information with the characteristics of college majors and career fields creating a basis for career planning. Suggested programs of study are identified for college majors. Detailed curriculum plans are identified for many career fields.

  3. eDISCOVER provides information about college scholarships and financial aid, the expected costs for tuition, books, room and board, and personal items at many post-secondary institutions.
