SCIS Welcomes New Faculty Members

This semester, the GVSU School of Computing and Information Systems welcomes two new faculty members: Professor Erin Carrier and Professor Nathaniel Bowman.   Professors Carrier and Bowman graduated from Jenison High School in 2009. Both earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Science in 2013 from Grand Valley State University with minors in Mathematics. While at GVSU, they completed a study abroad program in Greece.

Under the supervision of Professor Greg Wolffe, they developed PyGASP a python library that uses Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) to accelerate signal processing. Their work was published in the proceedings of EIT 2013, a conference sponsored by IEEE.

Bowman and Carrier went to pursue their graduate studies at the University of Illinois / Urbana-Champaign, where their adviser for their dissertations was Dr. Michael Heath, a leading researcher in the area of numerical methods for linear algebra.

Please join us in welcoming Professors Bowman and Carrier to GVSU and to the School of Computing!
