We believe that community engagement is one of the best ways that GVSU can help students to shape their lives, their professions, and their societies. For this reason, the Office for Community Engagement seeks to connect GVSU students with a wide array of resources and opportunities to participate in community-based learning. Browse the links below to view a collection of internal and external resources for co-curricular, research and funding opportunities for students.
Community Service Learning Center. The GVSU Community Service Learning Center prepares students to become active global citizens and challenges them to be committed to a life of community engagement and democratic participation. The CSLC offers annual days of service, opportunities for student organization community engagement, resources for student preparation for civic engagement, and training on making community engagement meaningful for students and community partners. They also have a Service Tracker to keep track of your service record for later use on job applications and resumes.
Women's Issues Volunteer Corps. The Women's Issues Volunteer Corps is a service learning and volunteer placement program coordinated through the Women's Center with the mission of making a difference in the lives of women and girls through volunteer opportunities that pair education with activism. Service opportunities are open to faculty, staff and students. Volunteers are encouraged to take advantage of the variety of opportunities available throughout the school year and across the community.
Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship. The mission of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) is to establish comprehensive services and programs which support students in their pursuit of inquiry, creativity, scholarship, and research. OURS can support undergraduate students and their faculty mentors interested in pursuing community-based research projects.
The Graduate School. The Graduate School provides leadership, oversight, and support for graduate education and graduate students and faculty. It develops programming and provides advising to assist graduate students through transitions from prospective students, to enrolled, graduating and to alumni. The Graduate School can also support graduate students involved in or interested in pursuing community-based experiences, including research and internships.
Sustainability Reinvestment Fund. The Reinvestment Fund has been established through the contributions of various departments and auxiliaries including: Finance and Administration, Campus Dining, UBS, Student Senate, and the Sustainable Community Development Initiative.
Faculty and students will have access to grants for sustainable development projects both on campus and in the community. The goal of the fund is to support projects that can be replicated across the university, working in support of GVSU's goal of becoming a national leader in sustainable practice.
