University Awards for Excellence
Donald Mitchell Jr., is recognized for the breadth and depth of his service to the Grand Valley community. In a relatively short period of time, Mitchell has taken on a remarkable amount of service at the unit, college, and university levels. He has served on the Graduate Council and University Conduct Committee, as well as several high-level search committees. Mitchell's commitment to issues of equity and inclusion is evidenced by his leadership as the co-chair of the Black Faculty and Staff Association, co-chair of the Climate Survey Action Team, service on the LGBT Resource Advisory Council and for the Academic Success Institute, and work as a mentor for the Brothers program in Student Services. As one colleague remarked, "He is much more than simply a member of each of these initiatives - he plays a vital, active, and critical role.”
Mitchell is one of five College of Education faculty who received awards for excellence at GVSU’s 2017 Faculty Awards Convocation on February 2, 2017.
