COMPASS Program's Purpose

The purpose of the Grand Valley State University College of Education (COE) COMPASS Program is to increase the number of underrepresented students in the education profession. The College of Education seeks to identify and recruit future educators to become admitted to and graduate from its teacher certification programs.

In COMPASS, students meet monthly to receive:

  • Advising and mentoring from COE Faculty and Staff
  • Test-taking strategies and skills for the Professional Readiness and content- area exams
  • and Pre-service teaching experience in local schools

In addition, COMPASS students serve to mentor GEMS (Growing Educators in Math and Science) students and assisting with the GEMS summer program.
