Classics major will spend 2013-14 in India as Padnos International Scholar

Abigail DeHart (Classics and Philosophy) will study Sanskrit and Hindi during 2013-14 in Uttar Pradesh, India, as a participant in the Varanasi Program organized by the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Founded in 1961, the program highlights India's ethnic, religious, and linguistic diversity. Varanasi (formerly known as Banaras) is located along the Ganges River and is a major Indian pilgrimage center as well as a thriving modern city of approximately 1.3 million inhabitants.

Abigail received substantial financial support as a recipient of the Barbara H. Padnos International Scholarship.

The Padnos International Center announced its recipients of study abroad scholarships for the next academic year.

Five students received scholarships from the Barbara H. Padnos International Scholars program for yearlong study abroad programs. They are Abigail DeHart, who will study in India; Roque Villegas, Italy; Katie LaRue, Costa Rica; Kaley Bectel, Russia; and Samuel Pfauth, Germany.

Four students earned the Mark A. & Elizabeth C. Murray Scholarship for Study Abroad for programs that are typically a semester. They are Bethany Ryder, Costa Rica; Angela Cluley, Costa Rica; Irma Ramirez, Spain and Cyprus; and Ismelda Tello-Reyes, Spain.
