Director's Welcome

Director

As director of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Academic Advising Center, I welcome you to our virtual home. The Center was established in Fall 2008 and represents the merger of four separate advising areas - Arts and Humanities Teacher Certification, School of Communications Academic Advising, Psychology Academic Advising and the SMART Center. Based on the recommendations of our students and faculty, the four areas were formally, administratively and physically unified to serve the needs of all students seeking majors and/or minors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. We strive to offer accurate, timely and consistent academic advising that is specific to each student that visits the center. Our staff passionately believes that academic advising must be a student-focused, learner-centered and collaborative relationship between students, faculty advisors and our professional advising staff.. Please take a tour through our web site and I am confident you will find a vast array of important resources to help you on your way toward achieving your academic and personal goals. I also urge you to meet regularly with your academic advisor and make this a normal part of your academic life here at GVSU. Whether it's a simple question about which classes to take or something more involved such as research or career opportunities, I know you will find the relationship you build with the academic advising community at GVSU and in CLAS to be an integral part of your academic journey.. Best wishes!
