1.   New Submission Deadlines for Awards (attachment) – message from Provost Davis

Keep in mind, this will not impact submission dates for Pew and Outstanding Teacher awards established by the CLAS Development committee (due Oct. 1).

Distinguished Contribution to a Discipline and University Service awards are not reviewed by the College committee and are affected by the new deadline of  Nov. 1.

2. Please invite CPC chair Mekik to Department Meeting – message from Figen Mekik, Chair of CLAS Personnel Committee

Dear Unit Heads,

It was a huge honor and pleasure to see all of you at the retreat. As I mentioned there, please invite me to one of your unit meetings this fall so I can explain to your entire faculty the guidelines and principles with which CPC operates. I think it is important to put friendly faces on three scary letters: CPC. This may be especially true for people up for tenure or those who have a personnel action of any kind this year (even a first review!).

I will come with either Fred or Gary and either George McBane from Chemistry or Kevin Tutt from Music. Our powerpoint only takes about 15 minutes, but we can stay up to 30 minutes if your faculty have questions or wish to discuss anything.

Please send your invitations to Cindy Laug at the Dean's office as she is coordinating our schedules.

Many thanks for your kind consideration.

Figen Mekik

3. WEAVE online resources-message from Julie Guevara

Please share this new online resource with those members of your unit that are involved with the WEAVE online assessment process. The following webinars, presented by Jean Yerian, are now available on the WEAVE Member Webinars page. The webinars can be an excellent resource for your assessment team. This webinar page has all of the archived webinars. Please bookmark and use this link and password to view all past and future webinars.

4. Alumni-In-Residence deadline is Sept. 4th– Jann Joseph

The deadline for you to submit your honoree information to the Dean’s Office is Sept. 4th. The electronic form can be accessed through our CLAS website or directly at http://gvsu.edu/clas/index.cfm?action=home.dar_page1 .    If you haven’t already selected an honoree and wish to do so, you need to hustle now to make that selection, confirm with your honoree, and begin making travel arrangements.
