My name is Justin Gray and I am the President and founder of the Crohn's and Colitis Student Initiative. With an emphasis on service and advocacy, the Crohn’s and Colitis Student Initiative’s mission is to provide students with IBD a school environment that is more suitable to their everyday needs. In order to achieve this goal, the organization is holding an event on March 25th at the Cook-Dewit Center. Both faculty and students are invited to attend to learn more about Crohn’s and Colitis.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Harold Conrad, a pediatric gastroenterologist, will address     the barriers students with IBD face and what faculty members can do to eliminate these hindrances. Several members of the group will also be sharing his/her story of being a student with IBD and the challenges that s/he face. Over 1.4 million Americans are affect by IBD.

With that said, I would like to personally invite you and your staff to attend this event. I believe that this event serves as a vital resource for professors. If you have any questions or concerns you may email me at any time at justinfgray@hotmail.com

  1. CLAS Governance Elections – message from Grace Coolidge

Dear CLAS Faculty,

The nominations ballot for the 2010 elections to CLAS and University committees opens Monday, March 1st and will remain open until Wednesday, March 17th. The ballot site lists all governance committees, the number of open seats on each committee, the meeting times, and any special requirements that may apply.

In order to nominate someone for a term on a committee, please click here: www.gvsu.edu/ballot/  (opens March 1)

You can nominate yourself or someone else. In order to nominate someone you must enter their name and their e-mail address. Once you have nominated someone, the system will automatically send them an e-mail so that he or she can accept the nomination. In order for the nomination to be official, the candidate must go to the nomination form, accept, and provide a personal statement of not more than 150 words.  The nomination is not official until the personal statement is entered.

The CLAS Faculty Council would like to enthusiastically encourage you to consider running for a seat on a governance committee and to encourage your colleagues to do likewise. Faculty governance plays a vital role at Grand Valley and having CLAS well-represented in that process is good for all of us. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please feel free to contact me at coolidgg@gvsu.edu . Thank you in advance for your active participation in this process.

Best regards,

Grace Coolidge

Chair, CLAS Faculty Council
