1. Submission Process for Graduate Recommendation Letters/Forms is Going Electronic - Fred
An electronic process for the submission of graduate recommendation forms and letters of recommendation is under development by the Office of Graduate Studies, the Office of Admission, Information Technology, and Institutional Marketing. Graduate Program Directors in CLAS will be contacted directly about a meeting to discuss this process and solicit their input by the end of the Fall semester. So now is the time to make any recommendations you may have to our Graduate Program Directors (Dave Elrod, Debra Burg, Eric Snyder [while Mark Luttenton is on sabbatical], Ben Lockerd and Alex Nesterenko). Many faculty and their best students will benefit when a universal form is developed that will have sufficient flexibility to allow graduate programs to collect all the information they desire from the applicant online. It is the intent that this project be ready for implementation by July 1, 2011.

4. Group Study Exchange Opportunity with Rotarians – short leadtime of Nov. 10th – Jon Jellema
Ed Kaminski, Rotary International District 6290, just notified us of a great opportunity with a very short deadline.
The opportunity: Rotary picks up almost all of the cost, including the airfare, for a group of 5-6 professionals who are non-Rotarians, ages 25-40, to visit a foreign country.
This summer (June 12- July 13) they visit Hannover, Germany. Some knowledge of German (not fluency) is preferred. Candidates are chosen in large part based on their enthusiasm. Could we muster 3 or 4 applications from GVSU?
The timeline: Ed needs completed applications by November 10.
Use Google, type in "Rotary Org: Group Study Exchange" to download the form.
Fill out the form and send directly to Ed Kaminski, 8765 Lehman Road, Montague, MI 49437.
Selected candidates will be interview in Cadillac, MI on November 20th -- again, enthusiasm seems to be the key.
