1. Seeking Volunteers-Must care about students and like the fresh air

On Wednesday, June 18, 2014 you can help us put the CLAS Scholarship Fund over the top to reach endowment level by spending a few hours volunteering at the CLAS on the Green golf outing at The Meadows.  If you are a golfer, we'd love for you to register to play ( http://www.gvsu.edu/clas/clas-on-the-green-382.htm ), but non-golfer volunteers are also an essential component of the day!  Most duties are quite light and in partial shade (such as working the registration desk) or have a fun-in-the-sun component (driving a golf cart or serving as the official for a game at a particular hole).  This year we are requesting that you sign up for a shift (rather than for the long haul).  Let me know if you would like to help from 11:00am-3:30pm or 3:00pm to 7:00pm (includes the cookout).  We will train.  Contact Monica at johnstmo@gvsu.edu.

2. Best Practice for Preparation of Personnel Portfolios (link) - From CPC

The CPC has revised its "Best Practice for Preparation of Personnel Portfolios" document.  Candidates at all levels (and unit colleagues!) are encouraged to consult the new document early in the process of developing their personnel dossiers, and are encouraged to contact the CPC if any of the recommendations in the document are unclear.

3. General Education Advising Updates- General Education Committee (4 attachments: GE Theme courses 2014-2015, GE Issues courses 2014-2015, Recent GE changes by course, Recent GE changes by year)

This message is intended to highlight the final phase of the transition from general education themes to issues courses. The attachments contain detailed information about the most recent changes in general education. This summary below is provided as a quick reference:

The punch line - you can't use the new GE Handbook to advise CURRENT students.

Any student who starts BEFORE Fall 2014, can take 2 Issues, 2 Themes, or 1 of each..........for the next 8 catalog years.

Any student who starts Fall 2014, incoming transfers, and freshmen can only take Issues; thus, the new GE handbook only has Issues.

Faculty and Staff can also access all of this information on the General Education website: www.gvsu.edu/gened

4. Use of D.J. Angus and W.G. Jackson (attachment)

It is again time to reserve the research vessels D. J. Angus and W. G. Jackson for use during the 2015 season (through Fall Semester, 2015).  A few details that you might wish to keep in mind are attached.
