The 2013 CLAS Sabbatical Showcase and Spring Celebration will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013.
- Showcase 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Spring Celebration (Awards, Dean's address, lunch) 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
- Showcase 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
All events will take place in the Grand River Room (2250 KC).

The winter Sabbatical Forum is being hosted by the Faculty Development Committee on Thursday, April 11, from 3:30-5:00 pm in 308 Padnos Hall. This bi-annual event allows individuals to meet with members of the FDC committee to answer any questions they may have.
Although sabbatical guidelines will be reviewed, the forum will primarily focus on concept building for research. Encourage anyone applying to attend and bring any ideas they may have for their sabbatical. Committee members are also available to conduct pre-reads.

Each year as we prepare the CLAS annual report, we call for pictures from all over CLAS that depict what you and your students do. Classroom shots, research shots, departmental events-if it depicts your activities well and was taken in roughly the last year or so, we'd love to have the high res jpg to consider for use in our report. Please screen out any that need explanation, any involving people in T shirts for universities other than our own (with the exception of host universities during study abroad), and any with children about whom we have no photo release. We will not be able to have captions or photo credits. Send only shots for which that is understood. Please send by e-mail to email@example.com before May 1. Thanks!
The CLAS Teaching Roundtables celebrate teaching and learning by bringing together faculty from across the college for lunch and round table discussions. These discussions provide a forum for excellent teachers to share with their peers, their passion and ideas about effective teaching.
We want to make sure that we highlight and showcase topics that are of particular interest to you. Please email your ideas and suggestions to Shaily Menon at firstname.lastname@example.org, by the end of winter semester.
5. Reminder: Presidential Honor Roll Report Request-- from the Office of the Provost ( attachment )
We are gathering information for the 2012-2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. GVSU was the recipient of the award in 2011 and we hope to continue receiving this prestigious award in the future. We ask that you do your best to collect as accurate information as possible.
Attached please find a spreadsheet ( attachment) for your use.
The definitions we are using to categorize the information needed are the following:
- Academic service-learning (service that is integrated with academic course content and may include research, fieldwork, internships etc.);
- Co-curricular service-learning (not part of an academic course, but utilizing service-learning elements).
Below is a brief example. Please note that if you do not know the exact number of hours per student or faculty, you can estimate.

Both categories of Academic and Co-curricular includes both direct and indirect services, but you need not report on each (e.g. direct service may be providing food for the needy, while indirect may be assessing community nutrition needs). (The distinction is merely to remind you of the different types of service that you might include.) Please respond to Mary Schutten by May 1, 2013.
The CLAS annual report for 2012-2013 will feature samples of the scholarly and creative achievements in CLAS over the last year (as part of our cycle: scholarly and creative achievements, service, teaching, and quadrennial report). For the first time, we will not have to ask Unit Heads to submit citations of representative work from their departments. Instead, we will be able to run a report from Digital Measures. Most of CLAS is up to date in Digital Measures due to recent FARs, but if you have had an even more recent publication, exhibition, etc., we wanted to let you know that we will run the report at the end of April, giving you time to enter you latest successes if you want to have this work considered for the report. ~Monica

I'm collecting suggestions for additional events in our departments next AY that could be given the 10th Anniversary of CLAS special distinction and the additional promotion that will mean. Several events are already on the docket, but I'm seeking more-especially those that fall in December and February. ~Monica email@example.com
