1. Nomination for Full Professor

If you are planning to request a promotion to the rank of Full Professor in 2013-2014, the personnel action takes place in Fall semester.  The deadline to submit the Nomination for Promotion form is March 30, to be considered in Fall 2013. (Those who missed the deadline for applying for promotion to Associate Professor this semester may also use this form to apply for promotion to Associate in the Fall.)

2. CLAS Sabbatical Forum

The winter Sabbatical Forum is being hosted by the Faculty Development Committee on Thursday, April 11, from 3:30-5:00 pm in 308 Padnos Hall. This bi-annual event allows individuals to meet with members of the FDC to answer any questions they may have.

Although sabbatical guidelines will be reviewed, the forum will primarily focus on concept building for research. Encourage anyone applying to attend and bring any ideas they may have for their sabbatical. Committee members are also available to conduct pre-reads.

Thank you in advance for helping to get the word out!

David Stark, Chair, Faculty Development Committee

3. Annual Teaching with Technology Fair – Wednesday (attachment)

Please come support your colleagues and gather great ideas for use of technology to enhance the learning experiences. Many CLAS faculty are presenting on the creative things that they are doing. Plan to attend.

4. From the Office of Fellowships- please share with your students

The Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships is hosting several workshops for students to learn about nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, including the prestigious U.S. Fulbright Program.

Fellowships 101’ will be held on March 21 and April 4, both at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Niemeyer Hall, and will serve as an opportunity for students to learn about nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships, what it takes to apply for them, and how the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships assists students along the way.

The U.S. Student Fulbright Program information session will be held on March 28 at 6 p.m. in Niemeyer Hall room 148. Students interested in pursuing research/study or serving as an English Teaching Assistant in another country following graduation are strongly encouraged to attend. Office of Fellowships staff will discuss the purpose of the Fulbright scholarship and the application process. The application for academic year 14-15 will open May 1 and the campus deadline is Friday, September 28. Students who plan to apply should contact the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships and plan to develop their applications over the summer.

Students who need to work on a personal statement for national award applications can get help at a writing workshop on April 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Niemeyer Hall room 114.

For more information on these workshops, visit gvsu.edu/fellowships.

5. Catalog Copy Due – from the Provost Office

The March 29 deadline for catalog copy is rapidly approaching and few revisions have been submitted.  If you have revisions to your academic program and/or the Faculty Directory, please send them to Laura Galbavi (galbavil@gvsu.edu) or Sherril Soman (somans@gvsu.edu) in the Registrar’s Office electronically in a Word document with the track changes function enabled.  Also, please name your document using the section/s you are revising as the filename.

Please do not submit changes to Degree Requirements or Course Listings and Descriptions. When the Registrar’s Office receives these changes through the UCC process, we will update the catalog according to the approved UCC documents.

If you approve without revision, please send Laura or Sherril an email confirming so.  If you have already sent your changes, thank you for submitting them early!
