Discipline-Specific Writing Support

The writing center employs peer consultants from majors across the university. Students who would benefit from meeting with a consultant with experience in science writing, the social sciences, or any other field, can determine using the website which consultants might meet their needs before scheduling an appointment. Or, students can call the writing center at 331-2922.

Recommending Students to Become Writing Consultants

Thank you for the writing consultant recommendations you've sent our way. We are currently hiring new staff for the 2012-2013 academic year! Our application deadline is March 16, so if you would like to recommend a student for a position in the center, email Lisa Gullo ( a brief note with the student's name and G-number, along with a couple sentences about why you think that student would make a great consultant. Writing consultant position information:

At the start of each semester, we email faculty in the disciplines, letting you know when consultants within your majors are working in the writing center.  Your recommendations help us to provide useful support to upper-level students in your major.

The Long Night Against Procrastination (N.A.P.)

Running 8 p.m. on March 15 through 8 a.m. on March 16, this 12-hour event is meant to be a shot in the arm for students wanting to get a jump start on final papers and projects. Different rooms in LOH will be assigned to different activities-writing, peer response workshops, guided writing activities. Survivors are rewarded with a delicious breakfast at 6 a.m. and a commemorative button. Please let your students know about this free event. Details: Suggestions or questions, contact Patrick at

Faculty Writing Support

Registration forms are now available for the week-long writing retreats for faculty and staff each spring and summer. Affording you quiet time to write and feedback when you need it, these retreats are offered between. April 30-May 4 and August 6-10. Details and a registration form:

Also, a 3-day "mini-retreat" will be held for faculty and staff wanting to dive into a writing project over spring break. Contact Lisa at 331-2922 to reserve a seat, which runs Wed-Fri of spring break, 9-5 each day, with lunches provided.

One-to-one coaching on your writing, or an interested reader to give feedback are available. Contact Michelle Sanchez at She's a great resource-and making an appointment to work with Michelle can be an opportunity to set (and make) a research/writing deadline for yourself.

We have completed our search for the C4 position in our office, and I am pleased to announce that Tracy McLenithan has accepted this position. We look forward to working with her. Her start date is March 12. You will get to meet her at the Unit Head meeting on March 14th.
