For Unit Heads
Beginning Winter 2012, the Last Date of Academic Activity is required by federal financial aid regulations, when entering a final grade of "F" or "NC."
Note from Chick: we are calling it Last Date of Academic Activity in an effort to suggest that taking attendance is not being mandated, rather setting a date of last activity can be determined in many ways.
I will add at this point, this is NOT complicated, but it is one extra step that needs to be taken when assigning an F or NC as a final grade.
Attached are FAQ's about the Last Date of Academic Activity and a document that shows HOW to do the grading. Here is a link ( www.gvsu.edu/registrar/ldaa ) to the registrar's web page where the same information can be found. Click on "Faculty", then "Last Date of Academic."

There will be several workshops related to service and civic engagement. GVSU students can attend for free (details at http://gvsu.edu/leadership/leadership-summit-home-page-21.htm). The Leadership Summit of Grand Valley State University is a state-wide premier leadership conference and campus tradition entering its 15th year. It is a student-run conference which strives to foster leadership development for undergraduate students, in multidisciplinary aspects of campus life. Composed of a dynamic keynote address, over 30 workshops to select from, a leadership case study competition sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa, and more, Leadership Summit has something to offer students at every level of leadership!
Hazing Awareness Scholarship of $700 available .
The African Diaspora Conversation Series is a lunch hour lecture series hosted by the African/African American Studies program in Area Studies. The goal is to create an engaging forum for faculty members, as well as students. All faculty members at GVSU will get a chance to showcase their scholarship in so far as it is connected to the African Diaspora. In such a forum, students will have an opportunity to join in scholarly discussions, too. They will have an opportunity to see and engage in aspects of academia in which their professors participate outside of the classroom.
The theme for our conversations for Fall and Winter 2011/12 is "Migrations," a fitting place to begin when doing scholarship on the African diaspora, a broad and rich area of study. We already have speakers from GVSU's History, Philosophy, and Area Studies Departments.
We are still in need of faculty volunteers for this event.
