On behalf of the Advisor Development Sub-Committee I would like to invite you to the 2011 Academic Advising Fall Forum. The event is scheduled for September 29th 3-5pm in 2215/2216 Kirkhof Center. During this 2 hour event we will focus on High Impact Educational Practices (as defined by AAC&U) at GVSU. We will have a panel of faculty and staff experts to provide an overview of what is going on in specific high impact areas at GVSU. We will then break into round tables where attendees will have an opportunity to delve deeper into the conversation with additional faculty and staff involved in these practices who will serve as round table leaders. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with two different round tables during the scheduled time. The committee is very excited about this forum and we hope that you will attend. This is an important university-wide topic that both faculty and staff can learn from to be better informed and help our students.Thank you so much for your support!
3. Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence (CSCE) offers alternate Allendale site.
At Grand Valley State University, research, scholarship, and creative activity are essential components of the university's mission as an institution of higher learning. In order to provide easier access for Allendale faculty, the Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence (CSCE) will staff an office in B-4-231 MAK Monday through Thursday. Faculty can meet with Robert Smart, Executive Director of CSCE, who will be available on Tuesday and Thursdays; a member of the Human Research Review staff on Mondays; and Christine Chamberlain, Director of Sponsored Programs, on Wednesdays. If you wish to schedule an appointment to ensure availability, please call the respective office of the person you wish to meet with.
Gen Ed just revised their website to include a section on Gen Ed resources. I think it is quite helpful to the conversation.
If you could distribute the link to your faculty, it would really help engage the conversation. There are a number of articles on national trends and conversations, as well as the campus proposal and workshops offered this fall. http://www.gvsu.edu/genedresources/

Every summer GVSU sends an exchange faculty member from CLAS to teach at the Pedagogical University in Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany). Instruction is in English. If you are interested in applying for this exchange program, please see the attached information and application form. Applications are due Nov. 1 to Dean Stark.

12. Leadership Workshop Facilitated by Joann Moody, Oct 7, 2011 (attachment)
We are excited to offer you an opportunity to send all chairpersons and deans to a leadership workshop facilitated by Joann Moody, author of Faculty Diversity: Problems and Solutions (Routledge, 2004). This will be a special session for only chairs and deans of member institutions held at 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. on October 7 at Davenport University. This will be held within the context of a broader conference at Davenport University on October 6 and 7.
