The Student's Role 
  •  Initiate contact with your faculty advisor and/or an advising center. 
  • Give thoughtful consideration to your academic and career goals. 
  • Bring a current copy of your degree progress form to your advising meeting (go to student services). 
  • Prepare a written list of questions before each meeting with your advisor. 
  • Actively participate in the advising session. 
  • Ask questions! If you do not understand a policy or procedure, ask questions until you do understand.
  • Know the Academic Calendar.
  • Do not miss deadlines.
  • Know when to register and drop or add courses.
  • Accept responsibility for making final decisions on academic choices. Academic advisors will present you with options, the decisions are yours.

The Faculty/Professional Staff Members Role

  • Assist the student with an understanding of the field/profession.
  • Review the student schedule to ensure that course pre-requisites are met.
  • Suggest possible solutions to students' scheduling problems.
  • Mentor and guide rather than direct.
  • Serve as a resource for students with academic difficulties.
  • Be available during scheduled office hours.

Primary Focus: The ARC supports student learning by providing a wide range of services to students in one central location. The ARC provides academic advising for students who have not decided on a specific major or minor, or those who are admitted with non-degree seeking status.

Primary Focus: For more than a decade, Seidman Undergraduate Student Services mission has been to facilitate business students successful progress through graduation. This office provides all routine advising for program requirements and scheduling for undergraduate business students. Students are encouraged to maintain contact with the office for support in meeting all graduation requirements. Appointments and walk-ins are accepted at the DeVos Center year round, as well as appointments in Allendale during the Fall and Winter semesters.
