Topics for Staff Roundtables

Roundtable 1

Facilitators: Becca Hambleton, Lisa Surman-Haight

Internal Grant Opportunities for Travel Abroad

Have you ever thought about applying for a Faculty/Staff Exchange Grant or a Partnership Delegation Grant? These are outstanding opportunities for professional development and provide the chance to establish meaningful contacts with colleagues from Grand Valley’s partner institutions abroad. This Roundtable will introduce you to these competitive grant opportunities, explain how the selection process works, and provide tips on writing compelling applications.

Roundtable 2

Facilitators: Cindy Driesenga, Ginny Klingenberg, Barbara Latham, Jason Rutter

Supporting Student Success

Helping students stay in school and persist to graduation is a top priority of Grand Valley. We will have greater success as an institution if faculty, staff, and administrators from all across campus combine forces to support students wherever and however they can. Roundtable co-organizers from different kinds of units around the College will share the various things they do to support students on a daily basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their ideas, experiences, and stories to the event. Leaders in the two sessions of the Roundtable will generate a best-practices document on how PSS and AP staff can best support student success.

Roundtable 3

Facilitators:  Michelle McCloud, Autumn Gorsline-Davis

Budget Management Tips and Tricks: Effectively Managing Departmental and Project Budgets

We will talk about the basics of accounting and how they apply to managing departmental accounts. Share some forms, screens and queries in Banner Finance and ePrints that provide you with the most useful information. Discuss and share strategies that simplify the process of budget management, including expense tracking templates.

Roundtable 4

Facilitator: Relando Thompkins-Jones

Microaggressions

Relando Thompkins-Jones, social justice educator/coordinator for the Division of Inclusion and Equity, will present this workshop. This session will help raise awareness about the nature of microaggressions and foster conversation on the ways in which they impact the work climate for many colleagues on campus. Participants will also discuss ways that they can intervene when they observe microaggressions happening.
