Welcome to the GVSU School of Criminal Justice. As part of the College of Community and Public Service at Grand Valley State University we are focused on increasing the understanding of justice based issues for students, practitioners, policymakers and community members.
The School of Criminal Justice faculty consists of eighteen full-time faculty and thirteen part-time adjunct faculty members providing a mixture of academic and professional perspectives across the areas of policing, courts, corrections, legal studies, law, juvenile justice, private security, social justice, criminological theory, public policy evaluation and cultural justice issues. Faculty members provide local, regional, national, and global perspectives of crime and justice issues in the classroom and through their scholarship. The School of Criminal Justice offers undergraduate degree programs in criminal justice and legal studies, as well as a graduate degree in criminal justice. In addition, the GVSU Police Academy and Criminal Justice Training Center offer avenues of education for entry-level and experienced professionals within the field of criminal justice.
The Mission of the GVSU School of Criminal Justice is to teach, prepare, advise, and assist students to make positive contributions in their chosen vocations within the criminal justice or legal system at the local, regional, national, and international level.
Graduates will possess a solid foundation of knowledge and performance skills in the criminal justice field and legal system, and will also have the ability to make ethically sound and appropriate decisions in response to the challenges presented to them in their professional and personal lives.
Faculty and staff of the School of Criminal Justice will demonstrate, model, and promote a respect for diversity and commitments to integrity, intellectual, and moral virtues, and life-long learning. Faculty commitments will be reflected, in part, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service.
