NUTRITION GUIDELINES
DEFINITIONS: FOOD ALLERGY: Overreaction of the bodys immune system to a food substance, usually a protein. CAN BE LIFE THREATENING Needs Physicians documentation.
FOOD INTOLERANCE: An adverse reaction to food which does not involve the bodys immune system. Generally not life threatening.
FOOD PREFERENCE: A request to avoid or limit certain food items. WE TAKE FOOD REQUESTS VERY SERIOUSLY. Food sheets will be kept in a notebook in the kitchen. Children with food allergies will be highlighted in red. Children with food intolerances will be highlighted in yellow. Children with food preferences will be highlighted in blue.
Meal Preparer duties: ¿ Eat before or after the meal is served so that food requests may be monitored at every meal. ¿ Before the children do hand washing food request checklist needs to be initialed at every meal. ¿ Children with food allergies will be seated at designated placemats only. ¿ Meal checklists will be color-coded to match the food sheets. (food allergy red, food intolerance yellow, food preference blue).
CONSEQUENCES:
FIRST OFFENSE: If staff notices an infraction the offending worker will be asked to leave the kitchen at that point and will be relieved of kitchen duties for the rest of the semester. SECOND OFFENSE: Offending worker will be sent home with notice that a third offense will result in termination. THIRD OFFENSE: TERMINATION
*All offenses will be documented in the employees file and added to their evaluation form.
HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS;
¿ Establish home/school routine with daily communication. ¿ Food coloring in milk alternative with parent permission. |
