What to do after dismissal
As stated in the GVSU catalog, a dismissed student may apply for readmission after a period of one calendar year. Evidence of maturity and improved attitude toward academics and written support of the student's academic advisor must support the application for readmission. All appeals are considered by the Academic Review Committee and the results are communicated to the student in writing. Approval of a petition allows the student to enroll on a conditional basis, as stipulated by the Committee and enrollment status will be Jeopardy of Dismissal.
The records office requires that you submit a petition to return form, a letter of support from an advisor, and any supporting documentation or evidence (medical records, academic transcripts, etc) that may support your reasons for appeal.
For students seeking degrees in the College of Community & Public Service we require you to meet with a faculty member from your major department AND an academic advisor from the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center to discuss your appeal before we can determine if a letter of support will be provided. Please review the information in the links below and call 616-331-6890 to discuss an appeal meeting and provide your availability. We will get back with you to confirm a meeting time which may take up to 2 weeks depending on your and faculty's availability.
**Dismissal appeal packets must be submitted to the records office no later than 30 days prior to the start of the semester you wish to return. This means that you must contact the advising center AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to that deadline to ensure we have time to review your appeal**
