Dr. George Grant Jr. assumed the position of the Dean of College of Community and Public Service on July 1, 2008. He has served Grand Valley State University since 1996 in various roles including Professor of Social Work, Director of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program, Director of the Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program, and Director of the School of Social Work. Dr. Grant received his BSW degree from Marygrove College, his MSW from Grand Valley State University, and his PhD from Western Michigan University.

He has presented at conferences on foster care, adoption, family preservation, and on topics ranging from culture and diversity, family violence and child welfare services. Dr Grant’s record of scholarship includes several books, articles, and evaluation reports.

With a strong commitment to community service, Dr. Grant has participated in a number of initiatives including chairing the Department of Human Service Overrepresentation of Children of Color in Child Welfare Committee, cultural competency research, and training for the county mental health and contract agencies. He served on the Grand Rapids Police Chief’s Transitional Research Group, the Kellogg’s Foundation Families for Kids Project, Kent County Drug Court, the Calvin College Social Work Advisory Committee and the boards of the Adoptive Family Support Network, Christian Counseling Center, Recuperation Center, Bethany Christian Services, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, and The Greater Rapids Urban League.

Dr. Grant has received several awards including the Family Preservationist of the Year, Negro Business and Professional Women, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service, the Presidential Service Learning Scholar, and the Distinguish Alumni for the School of Social Work at Marygrove College.

Dr. William Crawley is the Associate Dean of the College of Community and Public Service (CCPS) at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Beginning as an instructor in Criminology, he earned the rank of tenured Associate Professor before moving into administration, initially as the Grant’s Coordinator and subsequently Director of GVSU’s School of Criminal Justice. In his current college role, Dr. Crawley has responsibilities for student support, faculty and staff development, alumni relations, strategic planning and assessment, community engagement, accreditation, and evaluation of personnel.

Crawley completed Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Management Development Program (MDP) in 2008. In 2009, he served as the Director of the Japanese Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) in Hikone, Japan, where he was also a JCMU Academic Fellow. He was an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at DePaul University in Chicago throughout the 2010-11 academic year, during which time he coordinated the development of the university’s 10th college (The College of Science and Health).

Crawley holds two undergraduate degrees – a B.S. in Resource Management from Iowa State University and a B.A. from the University of Iowa in Asian Studies and Japanese Language. He continued his education at the University of South Carolina, receiving a Masters degree in Criminal Justice and a Graduate Certification in Drug & Alcohol Studies with an emphasis in Neuro-Psyho-Pharmacology. Thereafter, he completed his doctoral studies in Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Crawley's research interests center on Criminal Theory and Intelligence, Comparative and Transnational Crime, and Addiction Behaviors and Need for Treatment. He has been extensively involved in translational research initiatives linking criminal justice and community-based organizations for more than a decade (e.g., ADAM, Project Safe Neighborhoods, Weed & Seed, Michigan Intelligence Operations Center) and often involves graduate and undergraduate students in such efforts. In relation to these initiatives, since 2003 he has served as the Principle Investigator on more than 2 million dollars in federal and state level grants. Crawley worked for several years as a Coordinator for a Department of Justice (DOJ) research and intelligence initiative entitled Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring Program (ADAM). As part of this work Dr. Crawley conducted or directly supervised more than 3,000 criminal interviews.

Valorie Frank (a.k.a. Val) has been a dedicated employee of GVSU since 1992. She began her career in the Management Department of the Seidman College of Business (then Seidman School of Business.) Her organizational skills, knowledge of the University and technological skills make her invaluable to the Dean's Office. Val enjoys a variety of different past times including church activities; reading; going for long walks with her husband; spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends; golfing; and working around the house.

Teresa Rademacher joined the College of Community and Public Service Dean's Office staff in October of 2008. She brings with her several years of experience to the GVSU DeVos campus, as she previously served GVSU in the Seidman College of Business Dean's Office since 2002. She holds an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Grand Rapids Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in General Education from Aquinas College. She is currently pursuing a Master Degree at GVSU. Outside of her position here at GVSU, she is a 1st Dan Black Belt in Chung Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do, is teaching and training in professional ballroom dancing, and recently took up golf. She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family and friends.
