How to be a Good Intern

Once you have secured an internship, it’s important to make the most out of it! Here are a few ways to do this:

Be professional

Always show up on time (if not a little early)
Dress according to the organization’s standards (if you don’t know what they are - ask)
Know and adhere to the organization’s web and technology policies (ie: cell phone, IPod, and Facebook use)
Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude

Be a human sponge - this is a learning experience after all

Ask a lot of questions
Volunteer to attend professional development opportunities/meetings/events
Ask for and apply feedback from supervisors and co-workers
Take good notes

Continue networking

Make an effort to meet people outside the area you’re working in
Introduce yourself to senior leadership
Connect with other interns

As a reminder, when you are completing an internship you are still a GVSU student, and representing GVSU in the broader community. The student code of conduct still applies.
