CONFIDENTIALITY OF CARE

As part of the Spectrum Health organization, the GVSU Campus Health Center recognizes all Spectrum Health policies.  We are committed to your privacy.  We understand that medical information about you and your health is personal.  We are committed to protecting medical information about you.  All records are private and confidential. We do not disclose adult patient information to anyone other than the patient or departments requiring the information in order to guarantee quality patient care, for example the laboratory or radiology departments.

We will not disclose, discuss or otherwise reveal any information regarding patients except that which is required in the course of performing our job duties.  Information obtained from a patient is considered to be privileged and confidential information.  Disclosure of this information to any other person or persons, except for other direct care providers, is considered a violation of the patients rights and contrary to accepted standards of health care confidentiality practice.

We will disclose medical information about you when required to do so by federal, state, or local law or regulation.  For instance, we are required to report certain injuries or illnesses for public health purposes.  We may use and disclose medical information about you when necessary to prevent a serious threat to your health and safety or the health and safety of the public or another person.  Any disclosure would only be to someone able to help prevent the threat.
