About the West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative
The West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative was established to enhance innovation and support the commercialization of life science products and technologies in West Michigan. The Initiative focuses on providing inventors and entrepreneurs with the capital, laboratory space, business services, product development tools, and community assets needed to turn ideas into commercial realities.
Business incubation. The Initiative’s Venture Center is a high-tech incubator for life science, medical device, and high growth start ups or small businesses. The Venture Center provides most of the entrepreneurial support services needed by start-up ventures for a nominal monthly fee.
Commercialization programs. The Initiative provides programs and services designed to help entrepreneurs, inventors, and businesses convert their intellectual property and inventions into viable commercial products or processes.
Entrepreneurial support. WMSTI has become the top regional resource for high-tech, high-growth entrepreneurs seeking leadership and guidance as they develop new business and product concepts.
Capital development. The Initiative helps connect entrepreneurs, start ups, and small businesses with appropriate capital resources.
SmartZonesm designation. As a designated SmartZonesm of Grand Rapids, the Initiative provides access to critical state funding sources such as Michigan's Pre-Seed Capital Fund
