Regional Math and Science Center
The Regional Math and Science Center (RMSC) is devoted to nurturing the mathematical and scientific instincts of young people, and to encouraging both students and teachers to pursue the study of math and science in greater depth. With its main office at GVSU, the Center serves Kent, Montcalm, and Ottawa Counties, including 36 public school districts and over 200,000 K-12 students.
Professional development. The RMSC works cooperatively with businesses, individuals, school districts, and other organizations to enhance the teaching and learning of science and mathematics. Professional development is accomplished through GVSU degree programs and RMSC-sponsored conferences, workshops, and seminars.
Resource clearing house. Cooperation and communication between businesses, K-12 schools, agencies, and universities are essential for continuous improvement of learning. The RMSC serves as conduit of information to the community regarding math and science education reform. The Center encourages partnerships, cooperation, and collaboration thereby creating a synergism that has resulted in enhanced learning activities and opportunities.
Student services. The Center generates enthusiasm, interest, participation, and achievement in mathematics and science among K-12 student through expanded academic opportunities, enrichment programs, and online games and programs designed specifically for kids.
Leadership. The Regional Math and Science Center is a member of the Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network, and provides leadership to business and industry, students, teachers, parents, and school districts through its professional development programs, curriculum support, student and family-centered activities, and outreach initiatives.
Community involvement. West Michigan is fortunate to have many institutions and businesses with an interest in helping students understand real-world applications of math and science. The RMSC reaches out to the community to promote involvement and interaction with students and educators in an effort to enhance the teaching and learning of science and mathematics.
