About the Michigan Small Business Development Center

The Michigan Small Business Development Center™ (MI-SBDC™) provides counseling, training, research and advocacy for new business ventures, existing small businesses, and innovative technology companies. With offices statewide, the MI-SBDC strengthens existing companies, creating new jobs, retaining existing jobs, and assisting companies in defining their path to success. The state headquarters, located at Grand Valley State University, supports 12 regional offices and over 30 satellite offices, each providing counseling and training to small business owners and entrepreneurs in all 83 counties in Michigan through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

One-to-one business counseling. MI-SBDC professionals meet one-on-one with small business owners to provide business management input and counsel.

Small business education workshops. These no- and low-cost programs cover a broad range of topics – including starting a business, business planning, financing, patents and trademarks, and much more.

Market research. The MI-SBDC statewide network provides a full range of market research services through the Seidman College of Business, as well as through local resources in individual markets.

Biz Resource Centers. These one-stop locations give current and future business owners access to business advice, computer hardware and software, and our extensive small-business reference library.

Resource link. MI-SBDC serves as a link to other organizations and agencies that provide information and support to small businesses, including Veterans Affairs, Accelerating Michigan Entrepreneurs – Michigan Virtual Incubator, IRS Tax Center, State of Michigan Ombudsman staff, and many others.
