Vision

The Seidman College of Business provides a rigorous learning environment, with a student focus, a regional commitment, and a global perspective.

The L. William Seidman Center honors Bill Seidman and serves as a monument to his legacy of community leadership and the founding of Grand Valley State University.

Bill Seidman believed that a business college is more than a place to learn facts and figures. It is an economic engine that helps power our prosperity by providing industry with a highly skilled, well- educated workforce!

The Need

To meet the changing needs of students, faculty and local business leaders and the increasing size of the Seidman College of Business, a new facility was born.

  • Regular classrooms for student demand

  • Large, U-shaped classrooms for the advanced review of case studies

  • Faculty offices large enough to meet with student groups

  • High-touch, high-tech rooms for an Executive Education program

  • Offices to consolidate the college's student services

  • Colloquium areas for outside visitors, recruiters, executive alumni, and special guests

  • Incubator spaces for small business outreach programs

  • Visibility in the community

The Impact

Seidman College of Business is now located in a highly efficient, flexible and networked structure that reinforces the college's intellectual leadership.  We will accomplish this by:

  • providing a front door for the West Michigan business community to interact with the college's numerous outreach programs

  • transforming the previously uninviting riverfront properties into a symbol of the highly educated workforce necessary to propel local and regional business to 21st century success

  • investing in downtown Grand Rapids by building a $40 million,110,000-square-foot structure

  • retaining more than 75% of Seidman College graduates in the West Michigan community, allowing them to start their careers and raise families in the region

  • partnering with more than 200 local and regional employers

  • orienting students to the rigors of the business world by providing access to a state-of-the-art trading room and real-time enterprise technology
