Grand Rapids-based CPA firm and GVSU supporter turns 70
Date: November 28, 2011
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids-based CPA and consulting firm Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter is celebrating its 70th anniversary. The full-service, locally owned and controlled accounting firm was created in 1941 with a focus on family owned and closely held businesses in West Michigan. The firm has over 60 employees and has grown to include not only traditional accounting, tax preparation and planning, and auditing services, but a variety of specialty niches.
Hungerford moved to its current location at 2910 Lucerne Drive, SE in 1993. The firm acquired SourcIT Technology Services, a technology subsidiary in 1999, and acquired and opened an office in Greenville in 2005. Hungerford has been recognized five consecutive years as one of “West Michigan’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For” by the Michigan Business and Professional Association, and was also named one of the “Best Accounting Firms to Work For” in 2010 by Accounting Today magazine.
Hungerford Shareholder Dan Carter, and GVSU alumni, was named to the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame Award in 2009, and was presented with the prestigious Outstanding Alumni award as an Alumnus of the Year by Grand Valley State in 2011. Carter serves as President of the Seidman School of Accounting Advisory Board and has taken an active role, both in the community and at Hungerford, to raise funds for the college’s new Seidman Center. As a firm, Hungerford has set a goal to raise $50,000 for the center. Hungerford also presents an annual $2,000 Accounting Scholarship to a GVSU accounting student in support of the GVSU School of Accounting, and the accounting profession in West Michigan. The firm has donated $16,000 in scholarships to GVSU students to date and expects to continue to play a leadership role into the future.
