Members of the Dean’s Student Undergraduate Advisory Board hosted a student leadership conference September 23-25, 2011.The students covered topics from sustainability, inclusion and equity, to building a better business school.
Meet the Accelerated Full-time Integrated MBA (FIMBA) Students
Chelsea Bengal - earned a BBA in Operations Management, with a minor in Hospitality Tourism Management, from Grand Valley State University in April of 2012. Chelsea has gained experience working with the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center for close to three years in both the West Michigan Region and Headquarters offices. Prior to that, she also worked as an office assistant at State Farm Insurance for two summers. Currently, she holds an Operations Fellowship with American Seating. In her free time, Chelsea enjoys traveling, reading, shopping, trying new restaurants, and catching up with close friends.
John Buzan - earned a BBA in International Business and Finance with a minor in East Asian Studies from Grand Valley State University in April of 2012. Some of his college highlights include: studying abroad in Japan, English teaching internship in Japan, and various volunteer work in the Grand Rapids area. John currently has a fellowship at Faurecia. He enjoys learning languages, basketball, golf, and working out.
Kristin Callahan - earned her BBA in Finance and Marketing from Grand Valley State University. Kristin was previously employed as a quality assurance engineer at Enlighten (an interactive marketing agency), where she gained experience in digital media and project management. While completing her undergraduate degree she interned at both Merrill Lynch and a start up company, acquiring knowledge in wealth management, sales, and customer relationship management. In her free time, Kristin enjoys playing sports and staying active, partaking in activities such hockey, snowboarding, running, and cooking. Kristin's fellowship is as a business development analyst at X-Rite.
Zachary Conley - earned a BA degree in Political Science and International Relations minor from Grand Valley State University. He has worked as a Telephone Outreach Caller, served three years on the Grand Valley State University Student Senate, and recently completed a secondary bachelor degree in International Business through the Cracow School of Economics, in Poland. His time outside of work and class is spent cross-country running, practicing acoustic guitar, reading Neil Stevenson novels, and browsing Reddit. He currently has a fellowship at Priority Health.
Jared Cowan - earned his BS degree in Public Administration (healthcare delivery and budgeting and finance emphasis) as well as a minor in Business at Grand Valley State University. Jared has worked as an Executive Administrative Intern at Metro Health. He played four years of baseball while earning his degree and was the captain of the team his senior year. Jared enjoys exercising, outdoor activities, and hanging out with friends. Jared currently has a fellowship at Spectrum Health.
Scot Dodd - is currently a student of the Full Time Integrated Master of Business Administration program at Grand Valley State University. He earned his undergraduate degree at GVSU in General Business and Finance. Scot has been involved in the startup of several small businesses, and wishes to be involved in entrepreneurship again in the future. He has also gained experience through an internship with UBS Financial. In his free time, Scot enjoys sports and the outdoors by being involved in the boxing club and going on camping, and kayaking trips whenever possible.
John Gallagher - has set aside 14 months to attend Grand Valley State University in pursuit of his Masters of Business Administration. He earns his undergraduate degree at GVSU in Accounting and Finance. John has worked at Berger Chevrolet for many years and hopes to continue there in a management position. During his time at Berger, he had many experiences. He would also enjoy working in an IT position. He currently holds a postion at Blackford Capital as an analyst. John enjoys traveling overseas to places such as Karkow. He also loves being involved with his church.
Kelson Glashower - earned a BBA in General Management and Marketing from Grand Valley State University in the spring of 2012. Kelson has worked for JDR Greenhouses as a Shipping Foreman and for Elzinga and Volkers as an unskilled laborer. He has volunteered for Young Life. Kelson enjoys being outside, hiking, swimming, playing sports with friends, and watching sports. He currently has a fellowship at Gordon Food Service as a Special Projects Intern.
Brittney Hesse - earned a BBA degree in Business Management and Marketing from Grand Valley State University. Brittney worked as an intern for an event based marketing company in Virginia Beach, VA and has a strong background in customer service. Brittney was a cheerleader for GVSU during her first few years at Grand Valley and still enjoys being active, mostly through running and biking. She likes to travel and enjoys movies, shopping, hanging out with friends, and reading. She is also an active volunteer for Junior achievement, Toys for Tots and her church café. Brittney currently has a fellowship at Fifth Third Bank.
Ahmed Imran - earned a BBA degree in Finance from Michigan State University. Ahmed currently has a fellowship at Van Andel Global Trade Center. Ahmed has previously worked for the MSU Office for International Students and Scholars, MSU Culinary Services, and the Eli Broad College of Business. Ahmed likes playing soccer and table tennis, playing guitar, listening to international music, reading thriller novels, tutoring, volunteering, and travelling.
Ryan Maloney - earned a BBA degree in Marketing from Michigan State University. He has worked as a Research Aide for the Michigan Apple Committee and assisted in the implementation of a promotions strategy for Michigan Apples in the Metro-Chicago Area. He has a passion for sports and has shared his passion for basketball as a coach for the Forest Hills Central Rangers Freshman basketball team. Ryan also enjoys helping others through volunteering. He volunteers one week each year as a counselor at Camp Sunshine, a camp for persons with physical and mental disabilities. Some other interests of Ryan's are music, food, microbrews, skiiing, golfing, reading, and writing. He currently has a fellowship at Amway.
David May - is working toward his MBA in Grand Valley State University’s new Full Time Integrated MBA program. He graduated in April of 2012 with a BBA in Business Economics. David is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Societies, as well as a former member of the Frederick Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley. He has helped tutor students in Economics and Accounting through the Grand Valley Tutoring Center. He also volunteers for the Rochester Symphony Orchestra. David wants to grow and learn both as a person and a professional through FIMBA. He will be working at Consumers Energy for his fellowship.
Kathleen McKee - earned a BBA in Marketing from Grand Valley State University in May of 2010. Kathleen has worked for Berger Chevrolet as a Digital Marketing Specialist, where she gained experience in Digital Marketing, Social Media Management, IT, Communications, Web Page Development, Graphic Design, Market Research, Relationship Management, Application Design, and Project Management. She currently has a fellowship at Amway as an IT Project Manager. Kathleen enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing basketball and volleyball, doing outdoor activities, reading, and web site creation.
Tim Sporte - currently studies in the Full Time Integrated MBA program at Grand Valley State University and works at Steelcase in Growth Initiatives. Tim was previously involved in the launch of an alternative energy company in London, Ontario. He earned his undergraduate degree at GVSU in Accounting and Finance. Outside of work and school, Tim enjoys spending time with family and friend, play sports (especially soccer and beach volleyball), traveling, and reading.
Trenton Taylor - earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Grand Valley State University. He is currently working at Consumer's Energy as a FIMBA fellow. Trenton likes to explore various areas of computer technology such as networking, software, and hardware in his free time. He has worked with other college students as a tutor in math and business disciplines and wishes to continue on the path of providing help to those that need it in the future.
Colin Umbarger - earned a BBA degree in Business Management and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand Valley State University. Colin has had internships for companies like Disney in their merchandise and sales department as well as with Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in their golf operations department. Colin enjoys playing sports like golf, basketball, baseball, and others. He also enjoys going to concerts, spending time with friends, biking, and kayaking. Colin currently has a fellowship with Byrne-Electrical as an operations improvement specialist.
