CFA West Michigan Scholarship Grants for the

Chartered Financial Analyst Exam

The Seidman School of Business at Grand Valley State University and the CFA West Michigan Society will award at least four scholarship grants to GVSU students or alumni to cover a substantial portion of the costs of sitting for the CFA Level I Examination. No more than two scholarships will be awarded for the December 2009 exam. The remaining scholarships will be awarded for the June 2010 exam.

To be eligible for the scholarship grants the candidates must satisfy the following conditions. 

  • The candidate must be a current or past student of Grand Valley State University.
  • The candidate must have registered for the exam and paid all required fees. If the scholarship grant is awarded, a portion of the registration and enrollment fees will be refunded.
  • If the enrollment fees are paid by the candidate's employer or by anyone other than the candidate, then the candidate is not eligible for the grant.
  • Candidate who have received previous scholarships are not eligible.
  • The student must fill out an application form by the deadline (see below).

Selection Process

Candidates will be placed in categories as follows:

  1. Current undergraduate students and alumni (with undergraduate degrees) who have graduated in the last year and are sitting for the Level I exam.
  2. Current MBA students and MBA graduates who have graduated in the last year and are sitting for the level I exam.
  3. Undergraduate and graduate alumni who have graduated more than one year ago and are sitting for the level I exam.
  4. Undergraduate and graduate alumni who are sitting for the level II exam.
  5. Undergraduate and graduate alumni who are sitting for the level III exam
The scholarships will be assigned to candidates in categories 1-5 (in that order). If there are more applicants than scholarships , then a panel of faculty from the Finance Department will determine who will get the scholarships. This determination may be based upon.
  • Indication of Need
  • Academic Performance
  • Experience
  • Any other information that is deemed relevant by the panel
