John Reifel earned his B.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University. His teaching interests are in urban economics, public finance, and principles of micro- and macroeconomics. His recent research has focused on black-white housing price differentials, the effects of crime on property values, and the demand for housing. He has done consulting work for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and he assesses economic damages as an expert witness for the legal profession.
John Reifel is a 1997 recipient and a 1996 Honorable Mention of SCB's Outstanding Teacher Awards. He currently serves as the Associate Dean in the Seidman College of Business.
