POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Assistant Professor of Microbiology in Biomedical Sciences – The Biomedical Sciences department is pleased to announce it is searching for a new tenure-track faculty member to join our growing department in Fall 2018.

Qualifications and Education: Qualified applicants will be committed to both classroom teaching and collaborative research with undergraduate and/or graduate students. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, or related field.  Candidates with expertise in any area of microbiology research (up to and including work with BSL-2 organisms) will be considered; we particularly encourage those with interests in immunology or virology to apply.

Responsibilities: Duties include a 9-contact hour teaching load per semester, scholarship and service.  While the primary teaching duties for this position will be in microbiology, faculty may be asked to teach across the curriculum, particularly in an area of expertise. 

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Startup funds for research are available.

Department:  The Biomedical Sciences department has been a rapidly expanding unit at Grand Valley State University.  Biomedical Sciences has approximately 1,300 undergraduate majors, 42 full time faculty members, a Master's degree program, and offers courses to support other undergraduate majors, the university’s general education program, and select graduate programs.  Along with our primary teaching and research facilities, a new science building has recently been completed to support laboratory opportunities for students and faculty, including a vivarium, aquatic facility, and microscopy suite with a confocal.  For more information about our department, see https://www.gvsu.edu/bms
