The advancement of modern medicine has led to a decrease in both the frequency and severity of disease outbreaks. However, a look back through history reveals epidemics so deadly and expansive they forever changed the course of human history. From the Black Death that ravaged 14th century Europe to the modern AIDS epidemic, in this Science On Tap, Dr. Haley will discuss how different diseases reshaped humanity and propelled modern medicine. Additionally, the molecular arsenal deployed by these pathogens that ensure both their spread and the demise of their host will be analyzed.
