Our World - Underwater Scholarship Society - For over 35 years, the Our World Underwater Scholarship Society has been providing scholarship and internship opportunities for undergraduate students.  For more information, visit their website: www.owuscholarship.org/.

The Student Conservation Society (SCA) - The SCA (www.thesca.org) is the nation's oldest and largest provide of conservation internships. The SCA offers over 2000 expense paid opportunities each year. Internships last from 12 weeks to 12 months, start at all times throughout the year, and are found all across the country. Interns have the opportunity to work with such agencies at the National Park Service, National Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affair, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Army Corps of Engineers, and other state and local agencies. Interns do not need to be in school or be a certain major; any age, major, and skill set are welcome to apply.

Internships are found in a wide variety of fields, including:
fish and wildlife, education, history, interpretation, GIS/GPS, resource management, visitor services, trail work, backcountry and botany.

SCA is an expense paid internship program, and offers the following

Beth McCarthy, three-time SCA alum and Great Lakes Recruiting Representative, will be visiting Grand Valley on Mon, Tues, and Wed, February 2-4. In addition to meeting with student groups, classes, and faculty, Beth will also hold two information sessions while she's here: February 3 at 5pm, and February 4 at 12pm.

The Center for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology currently has research positions available at the University of Oregon. They wish to establish a pool of applicants for potential fixed-term, adjunct research assistant (bachelor's degree required) or research associate (Ph.D. required) positions. FTEs may vary. Positions may be renewable depending upon performance, funding, and need.


Some positions may require extensive experience with molecular techniques and/or extensive previous experience in a similar job role. Areas of research may include molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, theoretical ecology, microbial ecology, pathogen-host interactions, global change, biological oceanography, biogeochemistry, population biology, community dynamics, and ecosystem ecology.

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and the pool will remain active through 12/31/09. Screening of applications occurs as positions become available and continues until positions are filled. Successful candidates will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

The Kent County Animal Shelter
-Has one position available for an internship during the Fall 2009 semester. The intern selected will play an important role in

Natural Resource Management

Michigan Department of Natural Resources  The Michigan DNR has positions available for student assistants.  Positions are available throughout the state.  The purpose of this position is to assist land management staff in the field with various forest management duties in a learning capacity. Work activities may include assisting land management staff with timber sale preparation; timber survey and marking; permit, contract or plan reviews; review of land use permits, conduct regeneration surveys and forest health surveys.  The pay rate is $11.52 - $20.32 /hr. Federal Wildlife Officer Position
Fort Bragg is recruiting a Wildlife Officer Position to work on its Fish and Wildlife Enforcement and Management team. 

Responsibilities include patrol, investigation, and special operations to enforce state and federal laws and regulations relating to fish, wildlife, and other natural and cultural resources. 

 

The best applicant will join a great team of professional Wildlife Conservation Enforcement Officers and Fish And Wildlife Managers as they oversee hunting and fishing, manage fish and game, ensure military training compliance with endangered species, natural resources, cultural resources, and environmental laws; and enforce state and federal fish, wildlife, and related laws and regulations on a 160,000 acre military installation.  

 

Our team is a close group of dedicated professionals that is serious about, but enjoys both our work and our relationships with our team, our peers, and our constituents.

 

Position is located in the North Carolina Sandhills, central in the state between the mountains and coast, with a very nice climate, agreeable living environments, and plenty of birding, fishing, hunting, boating, and other great outdoor recreational opportunities.

 

Position is a permanent, full performance level GS-09 Wildlife Officer, with entry possible at the GS-07 level. Due to the complexity of environmental responsibility, this is classified as an 1801 Series (Environmental Compliance Specialist). In addition to broader

experience in land management enforcement disciplines, selected candidates will receive the finest Federal Wildlife Officer training commensurate with the rigorous requirements of other federal natural resource and land management agencies.
