Beta Weekly - Week of January 18, 2015

Hello everyone!

Last Thursday (top)
Last week, we had our first meeting of the semester, which included initiation and Ken Chesterman from Primerica coming to speak about entrepreneurship and the opportunities Primerica offers for that. It was good to see our returning members as well as some new faces!

This Thursday (top)
This week, we are having a social with food and games! It will be in room 1008B at 6pm on Thursday, January 22. The dress is casual. This meeting is mandatory.

Bowling Event (top)
Thursday, January 29th, we are having a bowling night with representatives from PlanteMoran, Rehmann, Crowe Horwath, and BDO. It will be at Clique Lanes from 6pm to 8pm. We will have a carpool uploaded next week. This will be an awesome networking opportunity, and there will be food from Jimmy Johns and great prizes! You will not want to miss it! It is also mandatory. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Laura Ford at

Community Service(top)
Thank you to everyone who signed up for the Groundhog Marathon! Throughout the semester, please email all your service hours (with BAP or not) to Sarah Pale at, and let her know if you are interested in upcoming opportunities:

GR Special Olympics Polar Plunge – taking place at East Grand Rapids Middle School on Saturday, February 14 from 9:30 to 2 pm. You can volunteer the entire time (get all 5 Beta hours knocked out at once!) or just for set-up (first half) or clean-up (second half). Also, if anyone is interested in actually participating in the Plunge, please email Sarah ASAP. Other GVSU groups are participating, and the Beta volunteers there will cheer you on! This would also count towards your service hours.

Comprenew— Tear apart old computers! This is a fun stress-reliever. BAP has a noon-5 pm slot reserved for Friday February 20 and Friday March 20. At least 7-9 volunteers are needed on each date.

Check out GVSU’s Community Service Learning Center for more ideas for how you can get involved in the community as a volunteer. Remember, you need at least 10 service hours during the semester.

Dues and Other Reminders(top)
Dues are $65 for members and re-pledges, and $120 for new pledges (per semester) and are to be turned in to Jacob Reeds or Kathy Goralski before THIS THURSDAY, January 22 at 12pm. Please contact Jacob at for further instructions on where you could drop them off to him. If you are turning in your dues to Kathy Gorlaski, she is located in the Accounting Department on the third floor of SCB. Please, write a check or bring exact change.

All members and pledges are required to do 10 volunteer hours per semester, and at least 5 of them have to be through Beta Alpha Psi.

All meetings are mandatory. Members are allowed to miss 2 meetings per semester, and pledges can miss 1.
If you have any conflicts with the meetings, they may be excused, depending on the circumstances (athletic competitions, internship, etc.). If you know of any conflicts you might have on Thursday nights, please e-mail or talk to Joshua Holtz (

Thank you for reading, you guys are awesome!
See you Thursday!
