Under the baton of Professor Barry Martin, the Grand Valley State University Concert Band is comprised of the finest music majors and talented non-music majors at Grand Valley State University. This ensemble is dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interest of its members while performing music of artistic and historical significance. Such works include: H. Owen Reed's La Fiesta Mexicana, Frank Ticheli's Vesuvius, David Maslanka's Give Us This Day, Rolf Rudin's Der Traum des Oenghus, and Symphony No. 6 For Band by Vincent Persichetti. The GVSU Concert Band has also been featured at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Membership is open to all Grand Valley State University students after completion of a successful audition. Audition information is available through the "Ensemble" navigation item and then “Concert Band” on the left hand side of this page. Fall 2015 Concert Band Audition Information
If you are planning on auditioning for SWE or Orchestra, you do not need to play an additional audition for Concert Band. That audition will serve as your CB audition. If this is the case, please go under “Ensemble Auditions” on the left side of this page and prepare the 4 pages of excerpts and show up for your instrument’s specific block of time.
If you are only auditioning for Concert Band, please download the specific excerpts for your instrument and prepare the page or pages to the best of your ability. The audition committee will be looking for good tone quality, rhythm, style and dynamic contrast. You will also be asked to sight read a short excerpt at the audition.

The sign up list for CB auditions will be located on Professor Martin’s office door (PAC 1219) starting August 17. If you would like to sign up for an audition time prior to August 17, please contact Professor Martin at email@example.com and let him know the day and time range you would like and he will sign you up and contact you with your specific audition time.
Concert Band audition results will be posted on the PAC 1515 (band room) bulletin board and PAC 1219 (Professor Martin’s door) at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
The first rehearsal will be Wednesday, September 3, 2015 in PAC 1515 at 7:00 pm. The rehearsal schedule for Concert Band is MW 7:00 – 8:50 pm.
