Statewide Autism Resources and Training Project
TRANSITION:
the process or period in which something or someone undergoes a change and passes from one state, stage, form, or activity to another.
The transition to adulthood can be challenging for all young people, but it may be particularly difficult for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their family. With the rising numbers of individuals identified on the autism spectrum, it is critical to review the current state of post high school programming for young adults with ASD and ensure that critical services and supports will be available to allow for a promising and successful future.START staff are working in collaboration with Regional Collaborative Networks (RCN) to review current post high school practices across the state and develop pilot projects to improve the programs and outcomes for young adults with ASD.
The limited information provided here related to transition may provide some useful information to determine how best to approach post high school programming, from secondary/post-secondary, to college, adulthood and beyond. We are not endorsing the websites or materials but we have provided a range of sites and information that might prove useful for the various needs and interests of families and individuals with ASD.
