Statewide Autism Resources and Training Project

Evidence Based Practices

An evidence based practice refers to specific interventions that have been proven effective through empirical study and publication in peer-reviewed journals.  In order to implement evidence based practices, educators must have access to clear, concise information about the strength of research supporting intervention options.

Educators must carefully select and implement evidence based practices through balancing knowledge of the individual characteristics and strengths of the student with ASD, professional judgment, and family involvement in planning. The effectiveness of an intervention for each individual student should be documented with regular data collection.
