Description
Professor Jim Penn, Department of Geography and Planning, will present Working on social problems to achieve conservation objectives in the Amazon rainforest.

This presentation (using many photographs) discusses the many social problems that impacted impoverished, exploited and marginalized rainforest villages that were involved (without their approval) in a multinational effort to create a large protected area in the Amazon Basin.

The author explains how, only by empowering and assisting these villages with their many social problems, natural resource conservation and the protection of biodiversity is possible.
