Cook Carillon Plaza, GVSU Allendale Campus
Music & Dance
Welcome to the up close and personal world of the Cook Tower and Carillon. Here is an opportunity to go inside the tower, climb the 61 steps to the playing cabin, and view the bell chamber which houses the 48 bells. The largest bell, called the bourdon, is immediately above the player's head. University Carillonneur Julianne Vanden Wyngaard will host visitors, provide interesting details and the carillon and answer questions.
Hear the music of the bells performed by internationally renowned carillonneurs at two locations throughout the summer:
The 19th Annual Cook Carillon International Concert Series runs Sundays, at 8 p.m., from June 23-August 18 on the Allendale Campus.
The 13th Annual Beckering Family Carillon International Concert Series runs Wednesdays, at noon, from July 10-31, on the Lacks International Plaza, DeVos Center, on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus.
For more information about these free open-air concerts please call (616) 331-3484 or visit www.gvsu.edu/music.
