Some of the most acclaimed Latin American films will have free screenings in West Michigan during the 4th annual Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival, April 4-7, at Celebration! Cinema North & IMAX and Wealthy Theatre. See individual listings for each date.
The festival will include screenings of films from Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina, focusing on a wide range of contemporary subjects, including "Gigante/Giant," a 2009 film from Uruguay, directed by Adrián Biniez. During the 88-minute film, shy supermarket security guard Jara becomes transfixed by Julia, a cleaning woman he spots through a surveillance camera. Soon, he designs his life around her schedule, following her to the movies, the beach -- even on dates with another man. In Spanish, with English subtitles.
