Saturday, April 6, 2013
Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy Street Southeast, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, (616) 459-4788 ext. 130
Some of the most acclaimed Latin American films will have free screenings in West Michigan during the 4th annual Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival, April 4-7, at Celebration! Cinema North & IMAX and Wealthy Theatre. See individual listings for each date.
Featured guests will include Venezuelan filmmaker Juan Andrés Bello and Argentine director Gustavo Taretto on Saturday April 6.
The festival will include screenings of films from Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina, focusing on a wide range of contemporary subjects, including "Medianeras/Sidewalls," a 2011 film from Argentina, directed by Gustavo Taretto, sponsored by the Argentine Consulate in Chicago.
Taretto will be a featured guest, along with Venezuelan director Juan Andrés Bello, during a free casual dinner and social time at 7 p.m., in between the screening of their films.
In Taretto's 93-minute film, Mariana and Martín are the perfect couple, separated by the wall their apartments share. They have the same quirks, same tastes, same ideals and even the same neuroses -- they're a match made in heaven. There's just one problem: They've never met. In Spanish with English subtitles.
All festival events are free and open to the public with support from Aquinas College, Calvin College, Ferris State University, Davenport University and Grand Valley State University, Mexican Consulate in Detroit, Argentine Consulate in Chicago, Consulate of the República Bolivariana de Venezuela in Chicago, Consulate of Brazil in Chicago, MOSTRA, Chiaroscuro Film Series, Celebration! Cinema North and IMAX, Wealthy Theatre, Radio La Poderosa 640AM e Interferencia 810 AM, Rick Rhoane y Leandro Robles.
